The Thomas Dale Marching Knights competed in their first marching band competition of the year on September 28th at the Hermitage Marching Band Competition.
Their “Day of the Dead” themed performance awarded them Best Drum Major. Marching Bands get three different scores, a music score, a visual score, & a visual effects score.
Freshman Jimmy Ridout, an alto saxophone player, was confident in their performance. “I think it went really well. It’s definitely better than some shows we’ve done,” he said. “But, I’m thinking there’s room for improvement for the next show.”
Despite Jimmy’s confidence, the conditions weren’t ideal. Ms. Klinger, Marching Band Director, said “I think they performed to the best of their abilities despite the circumstances. It’s very humid.”
Junior, Abby Schuchart, a flute player, said “It’s really really hot, I was baking in the uniform.”
But, Ms. Klinger is undeterred by the first performance’s downfalls. “It’s going to get there,” she says. “They’re working hard, which is important.”
Marching band will next play at the homecoming game this Friday. Come out and show your support!
